A virtual seminar for farmland owners to deepen their understanding of soil health and conservation.

MFA and FCS Financial invited farmland owners to virtually join the conversation on conservation and farmland ownership on Tuesday, October 19.

This event was ideal for those who own or plan to own farmland under management by another farmer or farm management firm and are interested in preserving the long-term value of their asset.  Experts discussed soil health for landowners, conservation programs landowners should know about, leases and relationships with farmer-tenants and capital available to purchase and improve farmland.

Below are presentations shared during the webinar and the webinar recording.

Landowners study

The study we are doing is funded by the USDA. Our overall objective is to help landowners incorporate sustainable practices into their leasing agreements. Other research indicates that landlords have an interest in preserving environmental quality and helping young farmers but that they don’t actually institute such activities into their leases. We are investigating how to incorporate such landowner values in a way that continues to protect their resources and is attractive to tenants.
