Missouri sheep eating grassEncouraging youth involvement in sheep production is a key driver for the Missouri Sheep Producers. The Starter Flock Grant program provides an economical way for 4-H and FFA members to begin their own flock of sheep.

The Starter Flock Grant, sponsored by FCS Financial, is open to all 4-H and FFA members across Missouri who have not previously owned sheep. No prior livestock experience is necessary but the application does ask about facilities for housing the sheep as well as goals for the sheep project.

The Missouri Sheep Producers will award up to three Starter Flock Grants of $600 each. The application deadline is May 1. Applications are available at www.missourisheep.com/youthprograms.htm.

The Starter Flock Grant can be combined with FCS Financial’s Ag Youth Program that allows 4-H and FFA members to obtain interest-free funds for specific livestock, shop and horticulture projects. The funds from FCS Financial are not a grant and must be repaid within 12 months. Learn more about the Ag Youth Program.
