The National Pork Board is offering free webinars this fall to help swine managers deal with the challenges of managing human resources.

The webinars will help managers discover new methods, tips and tools for working efficiently and effectively with their operations’ most important resource - people.

“INVESTING TIME to improve employee management displays our commitment to hiring, retaining and educating the pork industry’s workforce,” Mary Langhorst, chairwoman of the pork checkoff’s producer and state services committee, says in a news release.

“This set of free webinars is a great way to gain knowledge without the inconvenience of leaving your farm site.”

To participate, participants must register in advance and register separately for each webinar. All of the webinars will be from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The webinars include:

•Training: Techniques to get team members up to speed quickly — Oct. 31. This session will provide man-agers with ideas, methods and tools to teach them how to have efficient and effective on-the-job-training with employees.

•Coaching and Feedback: Help your team understand what to do and how to do it right — Nov. 7. This session will outline an easy and positive way to guide and develop the performance of employees.

•Conflict Resolution: How to deal with conflict in your team — Nov. 14. This session will identify the manager’s role in dealing with personal and team conflict, look at natural reactions to conflict that can hinder or benefit interactions and outline steps to resolve conflict.

•Discipline and Termination: Dealing with problem employees legally — Nov. 28. This session will look at the manager’s role in the disciplinary process, discuss how to help an employee improve job performance and explore ways to appropriately terminate an employee when necessary.

•Appraising Performance: Tips for handling performance appraisals — Dec. 5. This session will provide ways to prepare for the appraisal, uncover common mistakes managers make and outline steps to successfully conduct the appraisal.
