If you look around rural Missouri this summer, you’ll see more than just crops growing—you’ll see the next generation of agricultural leaders rolling up their sleeves. From pouring concrete for new accessibility ramps to revitalizing historic community spaces, 86 FFA chapters and 4-H clubs are using FCS Financial’s Shaping Rural Missouri Grants to leave a lasting mark on the places they call home.
This year marks a major milestone for the program: its 15th anniversary. What began as a modest initiative to support local youth has blossomed into a cornerstone of our community investment strategy.
Since the program’s inception, FCS Financial has been honored to distribute more than $407,000 through 836 individual grants. These funds aren't just line items in a budget; they represent over 800 times a group of young people identified a need in their hometown and took the initiative to fix it.
“It’s inspiring to see the continued commitment to community service from our youth in agriculture and their leaders,” says Rob Guinn, FCS Financial CEO.
“These grants empower 4-H and FFA members to collaborate on projects that benefit their local Missouri communities while simultaneously developing valuable leadership and teamwork skills.”
While many of the 2026 projects focus on beautification, others tackle items required to keep rural infrastructure thriving. This summer’s projects fall into
several vital categories:
- Fairground Infrastructure: From installing livestock wash racks to renovating restrooms and concession stand roofs, our youth are maintaining the heart of the summer fair season.
- Community Safety & Accessibility: Several clubs are focusing on inclusivity by constructing all-abilities playgrounds, installing ADA-compliant parking signage, and adding safety lighting to public walking paths.
- Agricultural Innovation: We are seeing an increase in future-focused projects, including the installation of hydroponic systems, greenhouse improvements, and the development of STEM-based educational kits.
- Recreation & Health: Youth-led teams are building community gardens to support local food security and developing new recreational spaces like pickleball and sand volleyball courts.
