The FCS Financial Rural Community and Agriculture Foundation recently granted $10,000 to the Dade County Youth Fair to assist with construction of a permanent pavilion at their new location in Lockwood, Mo.
“Over the last 10 years we have struggled to keep the livestock safe during the fair having no permanent structure,” says Michelle Kleeman, Fair Board President. “We have used temporary tents, but those also pose a safety hazard with tie downs and weather-related issues.”
The Youth Fair’s mission is to help the youth in Dade County succeed in the areas of agriculture and related fields. With this mission in mind, the move to Lockwood was made and met with tremendous community support as it allowed 4-H members to show their projects and livestock as well as to give speeches in one location for the public to attend. The 60 ft. by 100 ft. metal pole barn to be built at the new location will provide shade, electricity and water ensuring safety for exhibitors, livestock and fairgoers. Currently, the fairground serves 4-H clubs and hosts livestock shows for all Missouri youth. Future plans include hosting a beef fitting clinic and a dog show with agility trials. Construction is expected to be completed in time for the Dade County Fair in June.
