On December 1, an early morning fire destroyed a portion of the LaPlata Elementary School and caused smoke damage to the entire structure. Fortunately, the building was empty at the time, and no one was injured. To assist with cleanup and rebuilding, FCS Financial is donating $5,000 to the LaPlata School District specifically for fire relief efforts.
“The support from FCS Financial, a group who values education and understands its importance, is greatly appreciated during this unusual time,” says Cheree Ball, LaPlata Elementary School Principal. “We truly appreciate their generous donation. Although our return to normal will take some time, this contribution will help us to replace things that were damaged due to the fire.”
LaPlata Elementary School is home to around 165 students in grades K-6. A community church is currently being used for temporary classrooms. The district hopes to return to their building for the 2024/2025 school year.
“Anytime a disaster strikes, it is devastating to the community,” says Robert Guinn, FCS Financial CEO. “This particular event is especially devastating as it disrupts the educational process for children. We’re happy that we are able to provide support to the community during this time of need.”
