$10,000 Grant to Alton High School FFA for New Animal Science Facility

The FCS Financial Rural Community and Agriculture Foundation provided a $10,000 grant to the Alton High School FFA chapter. The funds will support the construction of a new Community Animal Science Facility, expanding hands-on learning opportunities for students and strengthening the local agricultural community.

The new facility will provide students with practical experience in animal agriculture, an area of high interest within the program. It will include a goat and cattle working facility, wash rack, hog pens, lambing pens, and a round pen for show and judging practice. The project aims to give students who may not have access to farmland the ability to house Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects, raise livestock for showing, and participate in daily farm responsibilities.

“Investing in the next generation of agricultural leaders is at the core of our mission,” said Rob Guinn, CEO of FCS Financial. “We are proud to support the Alton FFA chapter’s vision. This facility will not only provide invaluable, hands-on education but will also serve as a vital resource, ensuring that students have the tools and experience needed to pursue careers in the agriculture industry.”

The Alton agriculture education program already includes a greenhouse, a shop for wood and welding, and a food science lab. The addition of the animal science facility will create a more comprehensive agricultural education experience. The chapter also plans to use the facility to host mock shows and collaborate with local 4-H programs, extending its benefits beyond the high school.

“This grant is a game-changer for our students and our program,” said Kelsie Orr, Alton High School Agriculture Education Teacher. “In a community with deep roots in livestock production, this facility will bridge a critical gap, giving all students the chance to learn about animal science through direct experience. From nutrition and genetics to the simple responsibility of daily chores, these are the lessons that build character and inspire future careers. We are incredibly grateful to FCS Financial for helping us turn this dream into a reality.”

The FCS Financial Rural Community and Agriculture Foundation represents the ag lending cooperative’s long-term commitment to a vibrant and healthy rural economy. The Foundation’s mission is to promote and support agriculture and rural communities.
