Missouri Farmers Care Announces 2013 Canstruction® at Missouri State Fair

After receiving a warm reception to the 2012 Canstruction® of a life-sized F-250 Super Duty pickup, Missouri Farmers Care has announced that they are building another canned-food sculpture for the 2013 State Fair. This year's Canstruction® will be a 12'9" tall FFA Emblem and will be easily visible in the State Fair Agriculture Building.

"This year we wanted to combine our work to raise food for Missouri's food banks with our support of the Missouri FFA," Missouri Farmers Care Chairman Don Nikodim said. "Missouri farmers and Missouri FFA do their part to help feed the world and we're proud to show our support both for our food banks and for agricultural education."

Many organizations work together to build the Canstruction® project, including the Missouri State Fair, Midwest and St. Louis Ford Dealers, Canstruction ® of Mid-Missouri, and Canstruction Inc.®.  Trabue, Hansen & Hinshaw, Inc. and Peckham & Wright Architects designed and oversaw construction of the sculpture and Bing's Grocery Stores of Sedalia donated all the cans for the project.

"The Fair is extremely proud to be part of such a worthy cause, and to work with such a generous group of business partners who have invested many resources towards the food drive project," Missouri State Fair Director Mark Wolfe said.

Missouri Farmers Care will also be raising food for Missouri's food banks with the Missouri Farmers Care Food Drive Tuesday promotion at the State Fair. Fairgoers can receive up to half off from their fair ticket by receiving a $1 discount per canned food item on Tuesday, August 13.

Canstruction® is a professional design/build competition and community service project of the architectural/engineering/construction industry. Their events and structures at special events like the Missouri State Fair are designed to raise awareness of hunger and show that "One Can Make a Difference" in a creative way.

Once completed, the FFA Emblem Canstruction® will stand 12'9" feet tall and will be made up of over 3000 cans. After the Fair, the cans from the FFA Emblem will be donated to the Sedalia food pantry. Food collected during Missouri Farmers Care Food Drive Tuesday will be distributed to food banks across Missouri.
