Vernon County Grant

The FCS Financial Rural Community and Agriculture Foundation recently granted $15,000 to the Vernon County Youth Fair to assist with the construction of a new Home Economics Building and Pavilion. The new facility, expected to be complete in May 2019, will be used for the Vernon County Youth Fair and the seasonal Vernon County Farmer’s Market.

The building will promote agricultural growth in the county and provide a large enough space for community organizations to hold meetings, fundraisers and community events.  The 60’ x 80’ multi-use, air-conditioned building will include a galley-style kitchen and concession area, restrooms, office space and an open area to accommodate civic activities such as 4-H meetings, county wide FFA chapter meetings, indoor exhibits for the Youth Fair and a new location for the Farmer’s Market. The attached 30’ x 60’ outdoor pavilion will provide ten vendor spaces.

The new building enables the Farmer’s Market to host more cooking demonstrations for the community while promoting healthier meal choices. The demonstrations will be simple, using fresh produce from the market. Vernon County youth groups will share in the responsibility of providing these demonstrations.

“As a rural community, the benefits of having this new Home Economics Building and Pavilion are tremendous,” says Nathan Forkner, Vernon County Fair Board President. “We also believe that involving our youth with the Vernon County Farmer’s Market promotes youth development and contributes to the agricultural and economic growth in our community. We appreciate the support of all donors including FCS Financial as well as the community.”

The FCS Financial Rural Community and Agriculture Foundation represents the cooperative’s long-term commitment to a thriving and prosperous agricultural industry and our rural communities. The Foundation focuses on targeted, long-term investments.

“FCS Financial is committed to supporting our rural communities by providing assistance for projects that contribute significant value to our industry and youth education,” says David Janish, FCS Financial CEO. “The Home Economics Building project will be a valuable educational facility for Vernon County that encourages a knowledge and understanding of agriculture and rural living throughout the area.”
