When adverse weather conditions cause an unacceptable stand, remember that in most cases, your insurance policy includes coverage for replant claims. It is important for producers to follow policy provisions by submitting a claim before disturbing any planted crop or replanting. Please notify your agent as soon as you think there may be a problem.
For replant claims to be payable:
- The cause of loss for replant must be supported by a covered peril and an adjuster must determine that it is practical to replant and provide authorization before you begin.
- The original plant date needs to be after the initial crop insurance plant date listed in the county actuarial.*
- You must replant at least 20 acres or 20% of the unit to receive a payment.*
- In some cases, a self-certification replant may replace an adjuster’s on site inspection, however a claim must still be submitted to your agent before you replant.
*If you have purchased a private company replant policy you may have additional replant coverage for dates before the initial plant date or coverage that begins at the first acre of replant. If you have this type of policy, please contact your agent before replanting any acres.
